file dates

I did an export with DBExpert which created a file on the server
named address.txt - I noticed the file date was wonky. It's 5PM
here but the newly created file has a time of 12noon viewed from
my client using Netdrive & FC/2.

Now over on the Linux server, the properties of the file say it
was created at 1PM.

On the server desktop the clock reads the correct time of 5PM

If I simply copy a file from my client to the server, the create time
is maintained.

My linux guru says Samba was invented for Windoze, and that I should
be using NFS

Maybe you need to adjust the TZ environemnt variable, however there is
http://svn.netlabs.org/samba/ticket/56

Worth a try, but I don't think so...

Kind regards,

"(changeset:126) this fixes timestamps when files are copied from os2 client to
xp/samba share (and then back). Still it is not correct for local server files. "

I'm not sure what this means, is the 4 hour difference something I have to live
with?

On both. Normally they ought to be the same as long as client and server
are located in the same timezone.

No. If you have setup TZ correctly you should only see a 1 hour shift on
some operations AFAIK.

My eCS client config.sys has:
SET TZ=EST5EDT,3,2,0,7200,11,1,0,7200,3600
which I think is correct for Toronto

Would you mind explaining where to check the linux TZ?

thx
